MORENO VALLEY>> Twenty-nine members of the Canyon Springs Health Careers Academy are much better prepared to be emergency firstresponders in the event of a local disaster after spending three days recently taking Community Emergency Response Team training.
Students learned about disaster preparedness and CERT organization; fire safety and utility controls; disaster medical treatment and terrorism; and light search and-rescue operations and psychology.
A culminating disaster simulation included community volunteers as victims, the Moreno Valley Office of Emergency Management and Cal Fire. It is good to know these students are ready to respond.
For those interested in taking a CERT class, the next available dates in 2017 include Friday, March 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
