MORENO VALLEY>> Strictly by virtue of standing 6’7”, former NBA player Tony Farmer commands attention when he enters a room. The one-time forward for the Charlotte Hornets and the Golden State Warriors got the attention of students at Sunnymead Middle School recently by talking about his own journey, growing up in hard-scrabble South Central Los Angeles and the difficulty and long-term rewards of staying on the right path and making smart choices. Farmer – appropriately, for his name – attended the University of Nebraska and appeared in 104 games in the NBA between 1999 and 2000. During his time on the Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors, Farmer averaged a career-high 6.3 points and four rebounds per game during the 1999-2000 season with Golden State. Farmer played in the NBA and Europe for 16 years and played with the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors. He also played in France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Russia and Puerto Rico. Farmer is one of the Principals at Blackstreet Sports & Entertainment Group.
