MORENO VALLEY>> California’s method of funding schools, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), includes a requirement that school districts work with their communities to create a plan to use extra funds intended to boost achievement for all students, with special focus on the needs of foster children, African-American students, children from low-income families and English learners. It’s called the Local Control Accountability Plan or LCAP. While many districts struggle to involve community members, Tim McGillivray, public information officer from Moreno Valley Unified School District, said MVUSD has outstanding community participation, with LCAP stakeholders meeting several times a year to review academic results and further refine the LCAP for the coming year. The recent LCAP Stakeholders Meeting, led by Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, included a review of successes along with areas of need, and a timeline for creating the new LCAP in time for the next fiscal year, starting July 1.
