MORENO VALLEY>> Emmy-winning, Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Edward James Olmos recently visited students at Midland Elementary. Olmos may be best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as math teacher Jaime Escalante in the movie, “Stand and Deliver.” Olmos met with a group of drama students from Valley View High, who were staging a production of “Stand and Deliver,” Olmos’s most famous movie, for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. Olmos offered advice to the Valley View actors including saying, "You have to believe in the character you play before the audience will." At Midland Elementary, Olmos also visited teacher Rick Wallace’s fourth-grade class at Midland Elementary School. Olmos was there to encourage the students in their work with the Latino Film Institute Cinema Youth Project, a program founded by Olmos that provides an immersive experience in the art of filmmaking. The program has proved to be a great way to foster literacy, creativity, leadership, collaboration and other critical skills.
