Advanced Placement Pass Rate Grows

The passing rate of students taking Advanced Placement (AP) tests at Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) increased by 2 percentage points for the May 2018 tests. The overall pass rate for AP exams is 32 percent. The growth in the pass rate comes as the District is increasing the amount of students taking the test. There were 2,948 tests given in 2018 versus 2238 in 2016.

Seven areas of AP study experienced double-digit growth in their exam pass rate: Art History, Music Theory, European History, Psychology, Computer Science Principles, Statistics and French Language.

The AP program offers rigorous, college-level courses and exams for students in high school. Students with the possibility of entering more advanced classes when the student enrolls in college. MVUSD offers about 30 areas of AP study.

“Our Advanced Placement students are leaving high school highly-prepared for college,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, “They are entering college on a track for a very successful future.”

“We are very proud of our Advanced Placement scholars,” said Board Vice President Jesus Holguin, “They are committing to college-level classes while in high school, with almost one-third of them passing the extremely difficult exam.”

In the 2017-18 school year, 3,583 students were enrolled in AP classes at Moreno Valley Unified four comprehensive high schools.
