Canyon Springs Teachers Encourage Cross-Curriculum

History teachers in Math class? French teachers in Chemistry class? English teachers in Spanish class?

Yes, it’s true! Canyon Springs High School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) teachers spent a day outside of their usual classroom settings to gain insight on the various engaging IB curriculum across campus. Teachers rotated between three IB class periods to observe and mingle with the teachers and students about the subject.

This is the second year of the IB program at Canyon Springs, and teachers are making a priority to encourage cross-curriculum collaboration to self-reflect and constantly improve their lesson plans. Canyon Springs’ goal this year is to incorporate the IB approaches to teaching, the learner profile, and ToK (Theory of Knowledge) in every classroom.

“Overall, it was a great experience to watch our IB students learn and see them thrive in all subjects,” said Canyon Springs High School IB Teacher Christine Flores. “With our first round of IB examinations this May, we have a big year ahead of us and we will be prepared!”

"As a former educator, I enjoy hearing about new ways to approach teaching," said Board President Susan Smith, "Our International Baccalaureate program is already a rigorous program and giving teacher the chance to expand and improve will only make it better."
