Electricity Conservation Means Big Savings for District and Schools
by MVUSD on 2014-11-13
Simple things like turning off lights and appliances when they're not needed, and being careful not to air-condition the great outdoors, has added up to big savings for several MVUSD schools.
Participating in the PowerSave Schools program, which is sponsored by Southern California Edison and The Alliance to Save Energy and is free to the district, nine schools saved a total of almost $86,000 in the 2013-14 school year.
Now the district is returning half those savings back to the schools that made it possible. Leading the pack of energy savers is Valley View High School, which saved more than $40,000 on its electric bill, and now gets more than $20,000 back.
