On Saturday, July 25th at 6:30 pm the team at Riverside Community Hospital cheered on and wished 60year old Mr. Carlos Calderon farewell as he was discharged from the hospital after spending 13 days in the hospital and ICU battling the Coronavirus.
Mr. Calderon who has been a diabetic suffered from high blood pressure, and asthma was brought to the Riverside Community Hospital emergency on Monday, July 13th where he tested positive for the Coronavirus as well as pneumonia.
According to his daughter Kathy Calderon, he had been experiencing symptoms a week before including, loss of appetite, weakness, difficulty breathing, and running a fever of 103-104.
Mr. Calderon was incubated while in the ICU and had to continuously be flipped to help him breathe.
Prior to him contracting COVID, both his daughter Kathy Calderon and son Carlos Calderon weeks before, also tested positive and isolated themselves from the family but experience much milder symptoms.
That day, Mr. Calderon cried tears of joy as he was released and reunited with his wife Leticia Calderon, his daughter Kathy Calderon and his son Carlos Calderon. During his battle, Mr. Calderon lost close to 25-30 lbs.
His daughter Kathy, who works for Monster Drink, came last weekend to donate Monster Drinks to the staff to thank them for the amazing care her father received.
It was an emotional day for both the family who expressed their sincere gratitude for the team who cared for Mr. Calderon, but also for the team at RCH who was so happy to see him overcome this battle and be able to go home.
To date, Riverside Community Hospital has saved 550 COVID patient's lives.
