On June 26, 2014, the Moreno Valley Chamber Commerce hosted and honored the graduating Class of 2014 of the Leadership Moreno Valley program. Started in 1994, the Leadership Moreno Valley program is a volunteer organization consisted of individuals who are involved in the wellness of the community of Moreno valley and play an active role involving Moreno Valley’s government, business, media, healthcare, education, public safety, and quality of life. Before the commencement began, the Class of 2014, along with former graduates, friends, and established guests including Sandra Mayo, president of Moreno Valley College were treated to lunch and to converse with each other. Among the members of the Class of 2014 Leadership Moreno Valley was Lt. Bill Tyler who works for the Moreno Valley Police Department. Lt. Tyler shared that his experience “was very rewarding and helps build a network of people who care about the maintenance and development of the city of Moreno Valley. Leading the Commencement was president of the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce Oscar Valdepeña who discussed the importance of the Class of 2014 of Leadership Moreno Valley. From visiting Serta Mattress and discussing how business can be improved, to touring the Moreno Valley Utility Substation to understand the natural resources that are provided for the city, the Leadership Moreno Valley program explores all the systems that are important to Moreno Valley to function as a city. Program leaders share that each member of the Class of 2014 played an important role in helping mandate an active role in the city of Moreno Valley. The group focused on items such as academic improvement in schools, the quality of hospitals, the working environment of local businesses, and more. Once the commencement adjourned, each volunteer received a special plaque honoring their 8-month position as a volunteer and leader in helping improve Moreno Valley.
