The Moreno Valley Police Department will host the local National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4. National Night Out is observed nationwide and is held to encourage neighborhoods to turn on outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with their neighbors and police officers. It is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and will not tolerate criminal behavior. Neighborhoods host a variety of events on this date, ranging from small potlucks and BBQs to larger block parties. To find a participating neighborhood near you, contact the Moreno Valley Police Department at 951-486-6717.
