As with the Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two, you never know who’s going to show up during Read Across America (RAA) Week. Bear Valley Elementary combined RAA Week with a College & Career Week, welcomed Police Chief Joel Ontiveros, City Manager Michelle Dawson, School Board member (and current CSBA President) Jesús Holguín, Dr. Susan Jindra of CSUSB, Bill Newberry, President of Riverside County School Boards Assoc., Arlene Garcia from Job Corps, and representatives from Life Empowerment Church, Wells Fargo Bank, Visterra Credit Union, Taylor Martial Arts, Moreno Valley Fire Department, Stations 2 & 99, U.S. Air Force, and other veterans and parents. By combining Read Across America and College & Career Week, Bear Valley helped make the connection for students between the power of reading, a strong education and college and successful careers. The great community involvement in RAA activities was another great example of fulfilling part of the district’s Strategic Plan: “Develop partnerships with parent, community, business and labor groups that support student academic goals and career aspirations.”
