MORENO VALLEY >> After it produced the top team grade-point average out of all 20 California Baptist University teams, the Lancer women's volleyball team was not surprised to see itself listed on the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Team Academic Award list on July 25.
CBU was one of 119 NCAA Division II programs who qualified for the honor by maintaining a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Lancers shattered that bench mark, with a 3.809 GPA for the 2015-16 season, which is also unrivaled in Coach Branden Higa's four years at CBU.
Last month, 13 Lancers earned their way onto the PacWest All-Academic team with a GPA of 3.0 or better this season, as well. For the third year in a row, CBU also produced the PacWest Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year in Jenna Perry.
