Palm Middle School recently finished their first Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Learning Lab, an ongoing lab that will increase STEAM access to students at the school. Dr. Amna Ahmad, a district Professional Development Specialist, will lead each lab.

For August, the Learning Lab’s theme was digital citizenship. The interactive online lesson focused on cyber bullying. Students were introduced to the concepts of digital footprints and learned to find multiple solutions to cyberbullying, how to be upstanding online citizens and how to empathize with the targets of cyber bullying. More than 600 students went through the lesson at the school.

“We are hoping to grow this program, where STEAM will not just be a pathway but part of our school’s culture,” said Palm Middle School Principal Dr. Mallanie Avinger.
