The holidays are here and it's important to recognize fire hazards.

The holidays are here, and as you cozy up in front of a fireplace or decorate your tree, it's important to recognize fire hazards.  Here are a few tips from CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department to stay safe as temperatures drop: Do not leave lit candles unattended or place them near flammable materials. Ensure holiday lights are free of cracks, frays, or damaged plugs. Do not overload electrical outlets. Ensure pot handles and electrical cords are out of children's reach. Be sure to have working smoke alarms. If you need a new smoke alarm, get one for free at City Hall through the SAFER program. Ensure fireplaces are free of cracks, blockages, or creosote build-up. Always use a fire screen on fireplaces.
