November marks Native American Heritage Month, a time of reflection and celebration of the rich history, culture, and contributions of Native peoples - especially those whose ancestral land includes what we call Moreno Valley. For generations, tribes such as the Luiseño and Cahuilla have called this region home, leaving behind remarkable evidence of their presence, from ancient rock carvings to granite mortars used to prepare food.
This month is a special time to learn, listen, and recognize the culture, stories, and achievements that continue to shape California and Moreno Valley today.
I encourage our residents to take the time to explore, appreciate, and celebrate Native American heritage. Whether it’s visiting local historical sites, participating in cultural events, or simply sharing knowledge with friends and family, every effort helps us honor the roots of our region.
Moreno Valley is proud to recognize Native American Heritage Month and to stand with Native communities in celebrating their legacy and contributions.
