After finding success often at the past two conference championships, it's not really a surprise to see a California Baptist University Lancer honored by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference each week since the team joined the conference in 2013-14.
Well on Wednesday Oct. 14, CBU won three of four RMAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards after the season opener on Saturday Oct. 10 to keep things familiar.
Alexis Ohmar and Zach Parry took home the respective men’s swim and dive accolades and Yosita Hapsari was named the women’s Swimmer of the Week after each earned an A or B cut for the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships at the PCSC Pentathlon.
Parry all but assured his attendance at the 2016 D-II Championships with an automatic qualifying 297.40 points on the 3-meter dive.
He also took first on the 1-meter with 267.75 points. Dive Coach Jeff Couto said it was the first time he ever had a diver hit a national qualifying mark in a season opener.
Ohmar won three of his five swims Saturday, dominating the freestyle events. He first won the 200-yard freestyle in one minute, 41.86 seconds and followed it up with a win in the 500 (4:38.65) before producing a B-time of 46.02 in the 100 free, which was .02 of a second under the standard.
Hapsari won three of her five events on the day, and notched a crowning achievement when she nabbed an NCAA Division II B-cut time in the 100-yard freestyle. She touched in 51.83 seconds, which was well under the 52.35 standard. Her highlight day continued when she won the 100 back (59.23) and 200 individual medley (2:09.18).
