MORENO VALLEY>> Edgemont Elementary hosted a performance by Orange County Opera, a non-profit organization dedicated to exposing the children of southern
California to the world of opera.
This year, the cast of professional opera singers performed scenes from Donizetti’s “La fille du regiment” (The Daughter of the Regiment), a French comedy that debuted in 1840.
But the humor of the 177-year-old production is timeless, judging by the laughter of the Edgemont audience.
According to the Orange County Opera website, the non-profit was founded in 1976 through the support of Las Campanas and the Orange County Department of Education with the expressed purpose of exposing the beautiful art form of opera to the school children of Southern California.
"It is our desire that the children we educate today will become the opera audience and financial supporters of the arts for the future," the website states. "It is also the intent of Orange County Opera to be an opportunity for young professional singers to develop and hone their craft in a fun and rewarding environment."
