Wildlife Adventure Coming to Grand Terrace Library as Books Come to Life for Local Children

Families in Grand Terrace will have a chance to make reading a little wilder this September when the San Bernardino County Library brings its “Get Wild About Reading” celebration to the Grand Terrace Branch Library. The local event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the library, located at 22795 Barton Road. The program is part of a countywide September campaign designed to encourage children and families to discover new books, visit their neighborhood library and make reading a regular part of family life. Throughout September, participating San Bernardino County Library branches are transforming reading into an adventure with wildlife-themed activities and incentives. Families attending participating “Get Wild About Reading” events can browse the shelves and check out materials while taking part in the special celebration. According to the County, customers who check out 15 qualifying items during a participating event can receive a special circulation incentive and an entry for a chance to win a grand jungle-themed prize. A separate promotion running September 12 through 25 allows customers who check out 30 qualifying items at participating branches to receive a wild animal Squishmallow while supplies last. The Grand Terrace event is part of a larger effort by the County Library to make literacy engaging beyond traditional reading assignments. San Bernardino County operates 32 library branches, offering books alongside educational, recreational and family programs. County Library Program Coordinator Elizabeth Williams said the library system continually looks for creative ways to make reading exciting and encourage families to explore everything available at their local branches. Programs such as “Get Wild About Reading” can be especially valuable for younger readers because they connect books with a memorable experience and give families another reason to spend time together at the library. For Grand Terrace families, the September 30 event also highlights the role the local branch plays as a community gathering place. A trip to the library can introduce a child to an unfamiliar subject, help a beginning reader discover a favorite series or simply provide families with an affordable activity close to home.
