The office of Assemblymember Jose Medina is looking for dedicated high school juniors and seniors to join the 61st Assembly District Youth Advisory Committee. The committee gives students the opportunity to discuss youth related issues, learn about the legislative process, and hear from community leaders. An application is available at the assemblymember's website.  Valley View High School incoming senior Ian McPherson has served on the committee for the past year as well as as an intern in Jose Medina’s field office. “It is cool to see how the community relies upon their representation,” Ian McPherson said, “You get volunteer hours and you get to see if politics interest you. It’s just a great program.” His time on the committee helped lead to his internship with the Assemblymember’s office. In addition to the monthly meetings, committee members get a free trip to visit the Capitol in Sacramento at the conclusion of the year’s program. Ian plans to remain on the committee for his final year in high school before heading off to college. He plans to major in political science and continue on to law school. "I highly encourage our students to consider this opportunity to serve on a local committee that will build their networking skills," said Board Vice President Jesús Holguín, "Learning about the legislative process and gaining experience at community events are valuable in any student's future."
