On Sept. 12, the Optimist Club held an Installation and Awards Dinner.
Tim Caszett, the 2013-2014 president of the club handed his reign over to Janet DuHaime for the 2014-2015 year. Caszett will have his last meeting on Monday morning, and from then on Duhaime will completely take over the Optimist Club presidency.
“I have served my term and I’ve had a really good year,” Caszett mentioned.
The money that the club raises goes to scholarships and letterman jackets for students at Moreno Valley High School. The Optimist Club has been responsible for seventeen students receiving their letterman jackets, and are about to award three more.
Before the awards were given out, they all gathered to eat dinner which included salad, steak, stuffed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, and dessert, catered by Rene’s restaurant.
Caszett and DuHaime spoke briefly as they gave the awards out.
The Rookie of the Year award was given to Kevin Giser.
The other award given out was the Optimist Club Member of the Year award that was given to Sue Aris.
The Moreno Valley Senior Crochet Club was honored as well with the Laura Froehlich spirit of volunteerism award.
