LOMA LINDA >> Walter’s Children’s Charity Classic (WCCC) celebrated 20 years of giving to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) by presenting the hospital with a check for $235,000 on Wednesday, March 23. The funds will go toward Vision 2020 and the construction of a new hospital tower dedicated to pediatrics.
“There is nothing more special than to be able to thank people who give because they love,” said Rachelle Bussell, senior vice president of advancement at Loma Linda University Health.
The funds were raised during the 20th annual Walter’s Children’s Charity Classic on Oct. 5, 2015 at the Victoria Club in Riverside, and since its inception in 1996, the WCCC has raised nearly $4 million.
“This sustained commitment over time speaks volumes,” said Richard Chinnock, MD, chief medical officer, LLUCH. Chinnock testified to the impact the WCCC has had saying, “I can't think of one clinical area that hasn't been impacted by Walters.”
As part of their ongoing support, WCCC has committed to supporting vision 2020 with a gift of $1 million over the next five years.
WCCC founders, Steve and Cathy Kienle, spoke on behalf of the committee.
“It's our love and passion that motivates us to give,” said Steve Kienle, “and it’s a gift for us to be able to give to Children’s Hospital. When you're able to walk the halls it makes it easy to give back. We are blessed to have Loma Linda in our backyard.”
The 21st annual Walter’s Children’s Charity Classic will take place Sept. 26 at the Victoria Club in Riverside.
