Mayor's Message: WiFi Garden

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

The coronavirus crisis has made even clearer the “digital divide” in our country and here in Moreno Valley: Some of us can afford an internet connection and some cannot. That means that for many students, online learning doesn’t really work, and that some residents who have lost their jobs now face an especially difficult challenge finding new ones.

As Mayor, I asked if there was anything the City could do to narrow that digital divide, and that’s what led to the creation of what we call WiFi Gardens – areas at City facilities where residents can access the internet for free, no password needed.

Free WiFi Gardens are now available at City Hall, the Main and Mall Library branches, and the Employment Resource Center, and will be expanded to include Cottonwood Golf Center, the Senior Center, and the Community Garden area at the Conference & Recreation Center (CRC). Just look for the WiFi Garden signs and connect via the new "ILoveMoVal" network.

This is just our first step in closing Moreno Valley’s digital divide. There’s much more to come!
