LOMA LINDA >> On Monday, April 25, 2016, at about 8:00 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Central Station responded to the report of an unconscious male laying in the north shoulder of Barton Road east of California Street, in the city of Loma Linda. Upon arrival, deputies and paramedics from the Loma Linda Fire Department determined the subject, a 51-year-old Hispanic male from Moreno Valley, was deceased. Evidence located at the scene indicates the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Barton Road. The driver of that vehicle failed to stop and render aid or contact authorities about the incident. Investigators believe the collision occurred sometime between 8:00 p.m., the night before and 8:00 a.m., when the body was discovered. Investigators also believe the driver involved would have known they struck a person and should have stopped. Members of the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team were requested to assist with the investigation. At this time, it is not known if alcohol and/or speed were contributing factors. The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who might have additional information pertinent to the case is encouraged to contact Deputies Rick Buss, John Thorp or Sergeant Phill Dupper at (909) 477-2800 or (909) 477-2817.
