MVUSD Named "Best Community for Music Education"

MORENO VALLEY>> Moreno Valley Unified School district has recently been recognized for its commitment to music. Out of more than 13,000 school districts (nationwide), MVUSD was designated "Best Community for Music Education" by the National Association or NAMM Foundation. MVUSD is one of just 527 school districts across the country to have received this honor. “It’s especially gratifying to have our work recognized by such a prestigious national organization,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “Our School Board and administration have worked hard to restore and rebuild our music programs because as a district we believe in the power of music, both as a means of students' self-expression and as a catalyst for student achievement in other academic areas.” MVUSD was also recognized for the way the district has implemented a program which emphasizes the importance of music education. The Every Student Succeeds Act or ESSA, which requires visual and performing arts be available to all students, is something the MVUSD has seen great success at. NAMM intentionally releases its list of exemplary school districts during the budget-crafting season. This lends a sense of urgency to the idea of funding music education programs. In this way, no pressure on the budget is added. With that said, the district has already committed itself to continuing to expand arts offerings for the coming school year. Moreno Valley Unified School District is the third-largest school district in Riverside County and the 23rd largest in California, educating more than 34,000 students grades K-12 at 40 schools. Its graduation rate exceeds both the state and national averages.
