MORENO VALLEY >> The Moreno Valley Cultural Arts Foundation (MVCAF) presented the first in a series of Professional Musician Music Clinics at the Vanguard Art Gallery on May 14. The Music Clinics are the creation of MVCAF's new Director of Music, Eric McKain, who has put on similar music clinics throughout the world, including London, Brussels, Paris, Jakarta, and Singapore. McKain has an impressive resume having performed with some of the greatest musicians including Stevie Wonder, Areatha Franklin, and Michael Jackson. McKain featured over 20 different percussion instruments presenting a brief history and evolution of each and then doing a lively demonstration. The list spanned from mason jars filled with water, a talking drum, timbales, and congas. MVCAF invited Moreno Valley High School student, Archer Oh to perform some of the music he wrote with an accompaniment by Eric McKain. MVCAF will be presenting a broad range of music clinics this year that will cover instruments, voice, songwriting, DJ, sound engineering/tech, and concert promotion. Almost every aspect of the music industry will be covered. MVCAF has partnered with the new Guitar Center on Canyon Springs Avenue. Guitar Center will be providing instruments and other equipment for each of the music clinics. McKain has a long list of friends that includes professional musicians and other professionals in the music industry that have agreed to participate in the upcoming clinics. Everyone is encouraged to attend whether you are a musician, music techie, or just love music. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. MVCAF, a non-profit, is seeking a sponsor to help underwrite the cost of future clinics so that we can continue to provide this tremendous resource to the community for free. Contact Richard L. F. Archer, President/CEO at 562-556-5178 or email rarcher@mvcaf.org.
