Val Verde Unified School District is taking several steps in an effort to increase parent involvement in the coming school year. “Parent involvement is a key factor in the success of our students,” explains Val Verde Unified School District (VVUSD) Superintendent Juan López. “Ten more bilingual clerks have been hired not only in an effort to help with work flow in school offices, but also to help create a more inviting office for our spanish speaking families,” said López at the VVUSD Board meeting on Tuesday night. The VVUSD is currently in the process of hiring a Bilingual Parent Engagement Specialist. This individual will play a key role in coordinating parent engagement and parent engagement programs within the District to enhance parenting and connection to school activities. District-wide, several schools will be offering free parent workshops to help encourage parents to be more involved in their child’s education. Dr. Charil Macaraeg, a Citrus Hill High School Assistant Principal explains, “at Citrus Hill High School we are already calendaring parent workshops such as: Social Media Awareness, Homework Help, and Coffee with the Principal. These workshops are intended to help our student’s parents become more comfortable and more involved in their student’s education.” Mr. López encourages parents to participate in the District’s first parent-involved activity, “It is important that parents feel welcome and comfortable at our school sites. That is why we are encouraging parents to join their students and walk them to class on the first day of school,” said López. VVUSD classes began Aug. 13. For more information on parent involvement please contact Carla De La Torre in the Education Services Department at (951)940-6011 ext. 10411.
