Victoriano Elementary School is one of 12 elementary schools in the Val Verde Unified School District (VVUSD) and the district’s first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) K-5 school. Teachers from the school recently returned from California’s First Annual STEM Symposium, where the school provided a presentation on STEM integration in the elementary grades. Now, teachers and students are gearing up for the school-wide STEM Fair on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. Principal Caryn Lewis shared, “Our teachers employ a rigorous and diverse curriculum to create a pathway of STEM learning experiences and foster a passion for twenty-first century learning and creative discovery. Each day our students improve in their ability to think critically and develop the collaborative problem-solving skills needed to become future leaders and innovators in a diverse, global economy.” On Dec. 12, Victoriano students from each grade level will provide hands-on demonstrations of the Scientific and Engineering Practices and performance expectations within the Next Generation Science Standards. In addition, fourth and fifth grade student teams will highlight relevant digital applications at the Technology Showcase and engage STEM Fair participants in the possibilities of robotics in the elementary grades. The school is committed to creating the highest levels of participation for all parents and community members. This is an open house event and everyone is welcome to join in the fun and learning. Experts from surrounding school districts and the Riverside County Office of Education will join the students and teachers on this night to celebrate a focus on STEM achievement.
