ALL>> The Inland Empire Chapter of Childhelp is proud to present its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, May 1. Besides the chance to win a brand-new car, donated by Fairview Ford, golfers can receive a free massage on the 19th hole, and enjoy a reception and buffet. Participants might also win one of the many other prizes that will be awarded. The tournament, hosted by Arrowhead Country Club at 3433 Parkside Drive, San Bernardino, CA, features a scramble shotgun format. Check-in begins at 8:30. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, for a hole in one, for the longest drive, and for closest to the pin. After awards are given, there will be an auction and a raffle. All proceeds will support the programs of Childhelp, the largest non-profit group in the United States serving abused children. Childhelp began in 1959 when Sarah O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, two young Hollywood actresses on a government-sponsored goodwill tour of Japan, found a home for eleven abandoned children. They then started four orphanages in Japan, and five in Vietnam. Today, Childhelp offers a variety of programs for abused and at-risk children. It operates several group homes in Southern California, maintains a comprehensive advocacy center for abused children in Arizona, supports foster and adoptive parents through two foster family agencies, one located in Redlands, and runs two residential treatment villages, one in California. The Childhelp Merv Griffin Village, located in Banning, houses up to eighty severely abused children, and offers medical, counseling and social services; art therapy; animal therapy; a swimming pool; and a non-public school. In addition to these services, Childhelp has also developed a computer-based, research-based child abuse prevention curriculum called Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe. The material is age-appropriate and non-threatening, and available for Pre-K through 12th grade. There is also a curriculum specifically for sports settings. To tour the Village, contact Sheri Bogh at 951-845-3155. Learn more about Childhelp at childhelp.org. There's still time to register for the tournament. Please contact Karol Mason at 909-374-3058 with any questions.
