Students of Val Verde Academy online school will be the first in the district to have access to the proven college-readiness strategies of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) in an online learning environment. Val Verde Unified School District (VVUSD) has teamed up with AVID to offer the fully-online program throughout the district with free tuition, online public school Val Verde Academy. AVID is a college-readiness system that teaches students essential tools and strategies needed to be successful in school and post-high school education. "Together with AVID, we are breaking new ground in evolving the worth of online learning as we continue to seek new and innovative ways to prepare students for their college and career paths," explained Tracy Bunz, Principal of Val Verde Academy. "We are excited to partner with AVID to cultivate a strong online college-readiness program that benefits students in VVUSD and, ultimately, public education everywhere." "Our mission is to ensure all students are prepared for college and Val Verde Academy is providing an opportunity for students in our district as well as surrounding districts, many of whom may not fit into the traditional classroom settings, to get a quality education." AVID strategies for success will be taught school-wide, throughout all classes offered at Val Verde Academy. All teachers and tutors with the online school are being trained in AVID strategies and incorporating those into the online learning environment. For more information about Val Verde Academy go to www.walverdeacademy.edu or cal 951.443.2450.
