Third-grader Mylique Hughes cannot rely on eyesight to help him get around, because he is legally blind. Instead, he has learned to make his way with a cane. Recently, Mylique demonstrated his learning by taking part in Cane Quest, a national orientation and mobility program of the Braille Institute of America held in Anaheim. The program is a challenging contest for students who team up with a sighted adult and navigate a route that demonstrates mastery of basic orientation and mobility skills. Mylique showed that his hard work at Butterfield is paying-off as he excelled in navigating his routes.
