SBVC Women’s Soccer: Garlinger and Ferguson Sign Letters of Intent

San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Women’s Soccer sophomore forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside John Wesley North) and sophomore defender Brandi Ferguson (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) have both signed a letters of intent. Garlinger with the University of Toledo and Ferguson with Louisiana State University at Alexandria. Garlinger loaded up on awards for her efforts in the 2015 season, including named 2nd Team All-American by NSCAA for Junior College Women's Division III. In addition, she was also named 1st Team All-West Region by NSCAA for Junior College Women's Division III and was named to the 2015 CCCSCA Women's Soccer All-State Team. Garlinger also had the prestigious honor of being named the Foothill Conference Most Valuable Player, she led the Conference, finishing 6th in state in goals scored with 22 and wrapped up a top 10 spot in the state in total points with 53. An offensive beast, she had three game winning goals, two "hat tricks" and five multi-goal games. Ferguson played in six games in 2015 and grabbed an assist at home against College of the Desert on Oct. 30, 2015. The team finished the season ranked 7th in the nation by the NSCAA, ending the year with a 16-3-3 overall record and a 6-1-1 conference record. They were rewarded with a #5 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. As a reward for their seventh Conference Championship, the team was bestowed with the Conference MVP award, four first team All-Conference honors and four second team All-Conference honors. In addition, head coach Kristin Hauge was handed the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association (CCCSCA) Southern California Coach of the Year award. Louisiana State University at Alexandria is located in Alexandria, Louisiana about 80 miles east of the Texas/Louisiana border and about 190 miles northwest of New Orleans. The LSUA Generals play at the Generals Field, and the team is coached by second-year coach, Michael Poropat. In the 2015 season, the Generals went 4-5 in conference play, with an overall record of 6-11-1. The Generals ended the 2015 season tied for fourth place in Conference, losing in the first round of the playoffs. LSUA is in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) of NAIA. University of Toledo is located in the town of Toledo, Ohio about 5 miles south of the Michigan/Ohio border and about 120 miles west of Cleveland. The UT Rockets play at Scott Park, and the team is coached by seven-year veteran coach, TJ Buchholz. In the 2015 season, the Rockets went 5-6 in conference play, with an overall record of 9-12. The Rockets ended the 2015 season in fourth place in Conference, losing in the first round of the playoffs. UT is in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division of NCAA Division One.
