Butterfield, Hendrick Ranch, Ramona and TownGate Elementary Schools encouraged fathers to walk their children to school as part of the Million Father March this week. The Million Father March (MFM) is an opportunity for dads, grandfathers, and organizations to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children.

At TownGate Elementary 106 fathers joined their students before school for breakfast at the school on Monday. Parent Ambassador David Layne encouraged the fathers to commit to reading 30 minutes a week, helping their children with homework and participating in 10 hours of community service.

Butterfield, Hendrick Ranch, and Ramona fathers and families marched the one mile from Hendrick Ranch to the Moreno Valley Unified School District office earlier today. Almost 100 people then filled the district’s board room for inspirational words from district officials, parents and community members. Ramona Principal Jeff Jones had these words of encouragement for the group, “It’s not what you say but what you do. Be there for your children on their educational journey.”

Hendrick Ranch Assistant Principal Diedra Johnson's leadership helped bring the schools together for this year's march. The march had more than triple the number of people as previous year's marches.
