MVUSD’s participation in History Day competitions just keeps growing. Recently, 15 students were selected at the Riverside County History Day competition to move on to the state level; that’s 15 MVUSD students out of a total of 44 state qualifiers county-wide – more than a third of all winners. Two of the winning teams are theater students at Valley View High School, who competed in the Senior Group Performance division, claiming first and second place with the informative and entertaining performances, "Food or Fiend," about KFC (where does the “nugget” come from, anyway?); and "The Unorthodox Shigeru Miyamoto," about the founder of Nintendo. The following group is headed to the state level in May: Junior Individual Exhibit: First, Gelyca Arce, Vista Heights Middle School; and Second, Alex Flores-Ceron, Vista Heights. Junior Group Performance: First, Jazmin Betancourt and Abbey Toler, Vista Heights; Junior Individual Website: Second, Jace Thornley, Vista Heights; and Senior Group Performance: First, Nathaniel Dominquez, Baleigh McKinnis, Hannah Shinn, Christian Torres and Mallory Ward, Valley View; and Second, Christian Esquivel, Zachary Ibrahim, Gracie Krikl, Jesus Magallon and Elias Mauud, Valley View.
