MORENO VALLEY>> The recent election gave Moreno Valley Unified School District two new members of the School Board, one with young children and the other with grown children who are MVUSD alumni. Susan Smith and Evan Morgan will fill the seats being vacated by Board Members Dr. Denise Fleming and Patrick W. Kelleher. Smith and Morgan will serve their terms for four years and this was the first school board election using the newly drawn Trustee Areas, which replaced the previous at-large voting system. Now, board members must live within the boundaries of one of five sub-districts, or trustee areas. Morgan, from TA5, owns and operates Wolf Designs Marketing. He and his wife have two children, and he attended Mountain View Middle and Valley View High School. Smith, from TA2, taught in the Nuview Union School District for 28 years. In retirement, she teaches part-time for Riverside Community College District. She and her husband have lived in Moreno Valley for 33 years and have had five children and three grandchildren attend MVUSD schools. Smith and Morgan will take their oaths of office at the December 13 board meeting.
