Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) is partnering with Sigma Beta Xi Inc. to establish Academies for Young Men on our middle school campuses to boost the academic achievement, leadership skills, and community service hours of our male students. In order to successfully establish these academies on your campus, we are requesting that you help with the following items: 1. Identify and recruit high-, medium-, and low-performing African American male students by September 2013. Counselors have also been asked to help recruit students for the program. 2. Provide a work station (desk, computer, and phone) for the AmeriCorps VISTAs who will be assigned to your campus as soon as possible. 3. Help identify a teacher who can serve as an advisor or contact for students on the campus by September 2013. 4. Provide a meeting space for academy mentors and staff to meet weekly with students, by September 2013. This program has proven to make a difference in the lives of our students at Vista Heights Middle School and we are confident that the same outcomes will occur on your campus. For any additional questions or concerns, please contact Patty Rucker in Student Services, 951-571-7500, extension 17320 to identify solutions for the successful implementation of this program.
