Council Member Jeffrey Giba is proud to announce his appointment to the Open Data/Big Data (ODBD) - Smart and Connected Regional Committee for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).

The committee is tasked with developing a Regional Smart Cities Framework to help cities across the region create policies to increase sustainability, transparency and innovation.

“Having served on several SCAG committees over the years, and as an educator and entrepreneur, I understand the importance of data-driven decision making and how open data/big data can drive sustainable policies,” Council Member Giba said. “I am humbled and honored to serve my community and the region and help further this important mission.”

SCAG is the nation's largest metropolitan planning organization, representing six counties, 191 cities and more than 18 million residents. SCAG undertakes a variety of planning and policy initiatives to encourage a more sustainable Southern California now and in the future.

Council Member Giba represents the cities of Moreno Valley and Perris as the regional representative for SCAG District 69. In addition to serving on SCAG’s governing board and the ODBD Regional Committee, Giba also serves on the following SCAG committees: Transportation, Legislative Action, Nominating, Scholarship, and Audit Oversight.

SCAG encourages public participation. Meeting and agenda information can be found on the SCAG website at www.scag.ca.gov/committees/Pages/default.aspx
