District Safety Committee Learns to Fight Fire with Fire Extinguishers

As firefighters will attest, many dangerous fires could be avoided if more people learned how to properly use an extinguisher. Many people have one at home, and everyone has probably more than one near them at work, but who’s ever used one? Not many of us. Members of the District Safety Committee, led by Risk Management Director Scott Mann, are now among the experienced few who do know how to use extinguishers, thanks to training at their recent monthly meeting by firefighters. Using real fire, committee members learned that extinguishers only work for 20-30 seconds, so aim is crucial: Aim low, at the source of the blaze, not at the flames above.
