The statewide coalition of arts-education supporters that make up CREATE CA just got an important boost with the appointment of MVUSD School Board clerk Jesús M. Holguín to its Leadership Council. Holguín currently serves as president of the California School Boards Association (CSBA), which represents the concerns of almost 1,000 school district governing bodies, and is a vocal advocate for making arts education part of California’s core curriculum. “We are delighted to welcome Jesús Holguín to the Leadership Council,” said CREATE CA Program Director, Patricia Wayne. “He brings his own personal passion as well as the perspective of the California School Boards Association and that of an active school board member. We look forward to working side by side on behalf of all California students to implement the recommendations in the Blueprint for Creative Schools.” Holguín, who uses both his positions as school board member and CSBA president to make the case that arts education supports overall student academic achievement and social development, said he is honored to help lead CREATE CA. “I deeply admire the work CREATE CA is doing to help restore arts education to California schools,” he explained, “and it is my privilege to lend my support to the cause.” Moreno Valley Unified School District is the third-largest school district in Riverside County, educating more than 34,000 students in grades TK-12 at 40 schools.
