Moreno Valley College Gospel Singers will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a one-day concert on Saturday, November 18, at 6 pm in the Henry W. Coil, Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School of the Arts concert hall in downtown Riverside.

In 1992, the Gospel Singers were formed under the direction of Marvina Levy who sought to expose students to all facets of gospel music. Since its inception, the Gospel Singers have recorded two CDs with the Collegiate Gospel Choir Fellowship; traveled to Sendai, Japan, performing concerts at Miyagi Gakuin Women's College and the Tohoku Fukushi University; performed with 22 choirs in Europe and performed twice before Pope John Paul II; and toured Las Vegas, performing at the Gospel Music Workshop of America in 2004 and 2010.

In 1996, the Gospel Singers made their acting debut when they appeared on national television on America’s Funniest Home Videos. They performed the show’s theme song and also appeared in a theatrical production of Antigone at Mt. San Jacinto Community College. The choir has been featured at the Heritage Music Foundation, under the direction of Margaret Pleasant Douroux, Ph.D., an internationally known gospel music composer.

Through its 25 years, the group has been visible in the community, performing at Disney’s Community Arts Showcase and Disney’s Celebrates Gospel; the Riverside County Board of Supervisor board meeting; the Riverside Community College District Performing Arts and Awards Gala; the Janet Goeske Senior Center; the Moreno Valley Community Creche and Choral Festival; the historical Riverside Heritage House; the Riverside Orange Blossom Festival; the Riverside Festival of Trees Christmas benefit; the Moreno Valley Summer Concerts in the Park; and giving a stellar performance at the Mayor of Moreno Valley’s inauguration ceremony.

This two-hour anniversary concert will bring together current and former members of the Gospel Singers. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Because space is limited, attendees are encouraged to reserve a seat at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gospel-singers-25-year-anniversary-celebration-tickets-38256804131?aff=ehomecard. Parking is available in the District parking garage, which is located next to the Coil School of the Arts at 3890 University Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501.
