Reche Canyon Sees Road Improvements

The Department of Public Works operations crews was improving some of the San Bernardino County maintained roads in the Reche Canyon area on Saturday, Sept. 12 and will continue this Saturday, Sept. 19. These improvements were made possible with the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approval of the Public Works budget. This chip seal project consists of spreading oil on the road surface immediately followed by a spreading of small rock chips. The rock is rolled so it embeds into the oil and the loose chips are then swept up. This portion of the work was done Sept. 12. A light spray application of an asphalt sealer will be applied this Saturday, and will seal the road, hold chips in place, improve the surface appearance and increase road life. The roads that will be receiving these treatments are the San Bernardino County maintained portions of: • Reche Canyon Road between just north of Placid Lane and just north of East Topanga Way. • Banas Road between Reche Canyon Road and the flood control channel. • Prado Lane between Reche Canyon Road and East Hidden Valley Lane. • Encanto Lane between Prado Lane and the end of the cul-de-sac. • Encanto Court between Encanto Lane and the end of the cul-de-sac. • Placid Lane between Reche Canyon Road and just East of Placid Court. • Placid Court between Placid Lane and the end of cul-de-sac. • Westwood Street between Reche Canyon Road and Myrtlewood Avenue. Traffic striping will take place on Sept. 26 and 27. Working hours will be from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be slight delays for traffic control and a detour around Westwood Street for a short period of time. A pilot car will guide traffic through Reche Canyon Road. For further information, please call Public Works at 909-387-8063.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
