Moreno Valley City Council Approves World Logistics Center

After days of deliberation last week, the Moreno Valley City Council announced the approval of the World Logistics Center (WLC). Its approval came after a nearly split 3-2 council vote. A business park designed to support global companies and their logistics operations, the approval of the WLC has been a topic that has drawn heated arguments both for and against its approval. Proponents of the WLC say it will bring jobs to the local area and turn Moreno Valley into a "full-fledged player in the global economy," as described in a press release issued last week by the city. Those arguing against the warehouse's approval say it will negatively impact the environment in the form of increased traffic and air pollution. The 2,610-acre campus will encompass 40.6 million square feet in the area south of the 60 freeway between Redlands Boulevard and Gilman Springs Road. The project, according to the official WLC website, will cost $3 billion. According to city officials, it will allow for the potential development of millions of square feet of industrial high-cube logistics facilities, high-quality office and other support facilities.
