MORENO VALLEY >> Pink on Parade, Riverside’€™s breast cancer walk and 5K run, invites the public to be part of the fun and help fight breast cancer on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Ryan Bonaminio Park. Pink on Parade will help raise awareness about breast health issues for both men and women in our area. By walking on Oct. 15, building a team, and spreading the word you are directly impacting the health of our community and the hold breast cancer has on it. The annual event is in its 5th year and had more than 800 breast cancer survivors, families, city employees, horses, and community members hit the pavement at Fairmount Park last year for breast cancer awareness. This year, for the first time the walk will start at Ryan Bonaminio Park and continue up Mt. Rubidoux. In 2015, walkers and runners were able to raise over $45,000 for the Pink Ribbon Place, Riverside's first and only breast cancer resource center. The Pink Ribbon Place helps over 1,000 families a year through its no-cost counseling services, support groups, health and wellness programs, breast prosthesis, and wig bank. Community leader Robin Sinkhorn is the honorary event chairwoman. “Breast cancer awareness and regular screenings are so very important because early detection saves lives and allows each woman the time to explore all of her options and choose the best for her,” said Robin Sinkhorn. “I never thought it would happen to me. I didn’t have the typical risk factors so I felt pretty safe. Luckily though, I did get my mammograms on a regular basis, so my breast cancer was identified at an early stage.” A Team Captain Kick Off will take place on April 21 at Sam's Bann Thai on Mission Inn Ave. from 6 - 7 p.m. Come out for a fun evening to find out how you can become a Team Captain for the walk and a leader in raising awareness about breast cancer in your community. “Being a cancer survivor, I can’t imagine going through cancer and not having insurance so if I can help someone have money for that, that’s what I want to do” said Karen Deloss, 2015 Pink on Parade participant and breast cancer survivor. Registration for the walk will open on April 1 online at www.pinkonparade.org.
