Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside is seeking information on the history of local clubs leading up to its 50th anniversary in August 2017. The Club has few historical documents and photos dating before the 1990s, including from its founding period. “We’d like the community’s help recovering our history so we have a complete picture of how we got from where we started to where we are today – especially those who helped us get here,” said CEO P.T. McEwen. Anyone previously affiliated with the Club is invited to get in contact by calling (888) 822-6535, ext. 207, or email info@bgcie.org. Former members, employees and volunteers can bring in photos and T-shirts. Additionally, the Club is seeking agendas, minutes, financials, and event photos from former board members. The Riverside Optimist Boys’ Club was founded in 1974, and closed in the early 1980s. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside is reconstituting that organization and opened a site in the Mission Pointe apartment complex last year. Additionally, the organization has a partnership with Riverside Unified School District at 20 of their elementary schools. The Boys’ Club of Corona was founded in 1962, and closed in the mid-1990s. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside is reconstituting that organization and opened a site in the Corona del Rey apartment complex last year. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside, which opened in 1967, will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration with Day For Kids in September, and is planning to hold a gala next spring.
