Health Office Gets a Makeover

It all started with a modest request for a donation: A couple cans of paint and some brushes and rollers so Edgemont Elementary’s school nurse could freshen up the school’s Health Office. But Tracy Smith, manager of Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Day Street, thought they could do a little bit more for the school. So began the transformation of Edgemont Elementary’s Health Office into a brighter, cheerier place to work and to treat students. The folks at Lowe’s decided the school’s needs qualified as a Lowe’s Hero Project. So for two days, a crew from the store renovated the Health Office, giving it an “Under the Sea” theme, complete with new paint, recovering of two health office beds, two new chairs, mini blinds on two windows, and, as a bonus, some landscaping with plants and bark in several areas around the school. “The difference Lowe’s made in our Health Office has been like night and day,” said school nurse Ginger Slater. “It’s much friendlier, which is important when we’re helping children who get hurt or aren’t feeling well. Having a bright, fresh room helps us help them.” Joining the effort by Lowe’s Home Improvement, was Jose’s Mexican Restaurant who donated lunch for the work crew. “It’s great to know we have such generous local business support,” Slater said.
