In recognition of his support for the work of school nurses, MVUSD Director of Student Services Ken Schmidt will receive the Lyda Smiley Award from the San Bernardino-Riverside Counties School Nurse Organization at a ceremony held next month in Temecula.
As Director of Student Services, Schmidt also supervises the district’s Health Services Department, which consists of nine credentialed school nurses, more than 30 health clerk technicians and a pool of substitutes.
“Ken Schmidt values and respects the work our school nurses do,” said Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, who nominated Schmidt for the award. “He leads his team with a positive, collaborative approach, which creates an environment where creative ideas, problem-solving and self-knowledge can flourish.”
The Lyda Smiley Award is named for a pioneer of school nursing in California. It is presented in recognition of work done in collaboration with school nurses to support the health and well-being of children.
Ken Schmidt has served as a school district administrator for 25 years.
