Recently, Moreno Valley Elks Lodge #2697 honored six Lodge Most Valuable Student Scholarship Winners with a pasta dinner, trimmings and dessert. The dinner was followed by a ceremony honoring Zarabeth-Iza Sandoval and Leobardo D. Oropeza from Heritage High School, Eunice E. and Joyce J. Shin from Moreno Valley High School, and Tyler J. Castleman and Adan Chavez, Jr. from John W. North High School. Students received certificates, $100 and a memento to remember the evening. Each student read the essay from their application and told the audience their college plans for the 2014-15 school year. All students planned to attend well-known universities with a variety of amazing subject majors and minors. Thirty-six members, students and guests were in attendance. All in attendance were reminded that these special students needed an A+ in test scores, academic achievement, employment, community service, honors and awards, leadership and extracurricular activities to be a Lodge Scholarship Winner. Adan Chavez, Jr. from John W. North High School was honored with an extra $800 when his application was selected to move up to State level. The Lodge is proud to honor Moreno Valley’s finest scholars! The audience was reminded that through the Most Valuable Student scholarship program, since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped thousands of students who need financial assistance to fulfill their dreams of attending college. MVS scholars are outstanding students who are at or near the top of their class, active in their schools and communities and recognized as leaders by their peers.
