The City of Moreno Valley’s first annual Community Day of Service took place on Feb. 25 and was a huge sucess thanks to the nearly 150 volunteers that turned up. Nearly 150 volunteers of all ages turned out to help paint, weed and clean up two of the city’s parks. Volunteers, who brought their own equipment, not only cleaned up the March Field Park community center and dugouts, but they provided a fresh coat of paint to the Hidden Springs Park. Volunteers spent their morning clearing litter and weeds, and worked to fill in dirt that had washed away after the recent storms. The Bulky Waste Clean Up event, held the same day, gave Moreno Valley residents the opportunity to drop off unwanted furniture, appliances and green waste. "It was great to see many people take advantage of this opportunity for a little spring cleaning," said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez. "I want to thank the Western Regional Council of Governments and generous donations and partnerships with Waste Management, Eastern Municipal Water District, and Dunn Edwards for making our first Community Day of Service possible. I especially want to thank all of the volunteers who took time out of their weekend to help keep Moreno Valley beautiful." The volunteers who helped make this event a success will be honored by the mayor at the April 4 city council meeting.
