The beginning of October marks a tirade of events for the friends, staff and animals at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter.
This year's first event to kick-off the season was Moreno Valley Animal Shelter's Dogtoberfest Walk-A-Thon Pet Walk scheduled to take place at the Towngate Memorial Park in Moreno Valley.
The full scale event was to start Oct. 4 at 10:00 a.m. and feature pet vendors, a pet walk and pet adoption services.
The event was to run a full four hours and feature a number of adoptable pets in the hopes that they would find new homes. However, unfavorable weather put a halt to all paws and tennis shoes alike. Dogtoberfest was condensed to an adoption event with only four furry celebrities.
Although the once four-hour-long event with booths and a pet walk was canceled due to excessive heat, it could not keep the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter team from helping some of their furry friends find a forever home.
Local families of all sizes and ages came to see these loving and hopeful four-legged friends in action. By the first hour, the shelter staff had already adopted one of the four dogs and were still seeing the onset of a growing crowd. With heat scheduled to hit a peak of 106 degrees by noon, staff members Kristin and Betsy of the Moreno valley Animal Shelter managed to help their canine companions while still ensuring that they avoid the heat.
The Dogtoberfest Walk-A-Thon Pet Walk has not yet been rescheduled.
