SBVC Baseball: Hendrix, Fillingame and Robles Sign Letters of Intent

San Bernardino Valley College baseball’s Christian Hendrix, Christian Fillingame and Tyler Robles have all signed a letters of intent. Hendrix with Campbellsville University, Fillingame with Bellevue University and Robles with the University of North Dakota. Sophomore left fielder Christian Hendrix (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) was named first team All-Foothill Conference and as an outfielder, he finished with a perfect Fielding Percentage with 63 put outs. As a batter, he finished the season with a .326 batting average and a .449 slugging percentage, collecting 42 hits and 23 RBI’s. Hendrix will join former sophomore right handed starting pitcher Nick Przybylek (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) at Campbellsville. Sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.) was named first team All-Foothill Conference and who finished with a Fielding Percentage of .981 with 195 put outs. As a batter, he collected a .288 batting average and finished in the top ten in Conference in walks (28) and was perfect behind the dish in fielding percentage. Fillingame hit three home runs and eight doubles with 31 RBI’s. Sophomore short stop Tyler Robles (Etiwanda H.S.) was named second team All-Foothill Conference, finishing the season with a .333 batting average and a .415 on base percentage, collecting 51 hits and 15 walks. Baseball head coach Bill Mierzwik was named as the winner the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award. An award bestowed upon Mierzwik after guiding SBVC to their third straight Conference Championship, approaching a historic coaching milestone by capturing his 593rd coaching victory. Six players were named first team All-Conference. The team finished the 2015 season with record of 23-15, had an 11-6 record on the road and an 11-7 record at home. Between March 10 and April 14, SBVC had won 13 straight games, which included sweeps over Foothill Conference rivals Barstow, Cerro Coso, Victor Valley and College of the Desert, along with series wins over Chaffey and Rio Hondo. Interestingly enough, the entire starting outfield and all three starting pitchers for SBVC were named All-Foothill Conference. Campbellsville University is located in Campbellsville, Kentucky, which is about 80 miles southwest of Lexington and about 135 miles north east of Nashville, Tennessee. The CU Tigers play at HIG Field, and the team is coached by 25-year veteran head coach, Beauford Sanders. In the 2015 season, the Tigers went 15-4 in conference play, with an overall record of 30-13. The Tigers lost in the opening round of the NAIA Championship Series. CU is in the Mid-South Conference of NAIA. Bellevue University is located in Bellevue, Nebraska, which is about 2 miles west of the Iowa-Nebraska state line and about 9 miles south of Omaha. The BU Bruins play at Don Roddy Field Sports Complex, and the team is coached by 5-year veteran Duane Monlux. In the 2015 season, the Bruins went 18-6 in conference play, with an overall record of 46-15. The Bruins lost in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament. Bellevue is in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference of NAIA. University of North Dakota is located in Grand Forks, which is about two miles west of the Minnesota-North Dakota border and about 80 miles south of the US-Canada border. UND plays at Harold "Pinky" Kraft Field and the team is coached by 7-year veteran, Jeff Dodson. In the 2015 season, UND went 16-11 in conference play, with an overall record of 24-27, finishing 5th. UND is in the Western Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I.
