The audience of family, friends and representatives of MVUSD and its high schools was filled with emotion watching their children and students clad in their graduation gowns file in for the 5th Annual African American Baccalaureate, held at Moreno Valley’s Cross Word Christian Church recently.
The inspirational ceremonies carried a repeated theme for the high school seniors, soon to graduate: Be thankful for those who helped you through school, but be rightly proud of your own achievement, and never forget the important responsibility you have to be a force for good in the world.
The culminating activity that followed an afternoon of inspirational song and sermon was the presenting of the kente stole, a traditional west African multicolored garment often given to others to mark significant occasions, and symbolizing through its various colors many positive characteristics and aspects of life.
